What is actually worth crossing the frontier for, or staying in town for. The fixtures that come round every year have a page each, written once and refreshed with the new dates; below them, whatever is on now.
The ones that come round every year
- Velada y Fiestas — the town’s fair, ten days every July on the Recinto Ferial, and the two local holidays that come with it.
- Carnaval de la Concha Fina — the singing contest in February, the Sunday parade, and the separate Noche Carnavalesca in August.
More annual fixtures are being written up one at a time — Semana Santa, the Noche de San Juan on 23 June, the patron-saint week in December, and the Gibraltar dates that pull people across the frontier.

The chiringuitos are open
The seasonal beach bars on Playa de Levante and Playa de Poniente are up and running for the summer, serving cold drinks, fried fish and the three-hour lunch. Programmes are published by the Ayuntamiento a few weeks ahead and can change — check the council’s listings before you build a day around one.
